Become a Housing Commission Donor or Volunteer!
The Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC) relies on local businesses, community agencies and individual donors and volunteers to offer a wide range of supportive services to the low-income families we serve.
Volunteer opportunities vary by facility and may include:
- Clerical/Receptionist Responsibilities: Answer phones, greet and assist visitors, filing, word processing, assemble and distribute packets and flyers, photocopying, inventory.
- Basic Site Maintenance: Office cleaning, trash removal, grounds cleanup, garden projects.
- Food Pantry and Senior Meal Responsibilities: Direct or assist resident food pantry volunteers, help with pantry inventory and food ordering, assist with Senior Meal ordering.
- Transportation Responsibilities: Van driver to transport residents to the grocery store and special events, pickup and delivery of food and furniture.
- Special Event Responsibilities: Plan and coordinate holiday parties and events, plan and coordinate children's birthday parties, organize/host resident potlucks and cookouts.
- Child Care Responsibilities: Mentors for young residents, day care volunteers.
- Education/Training Responsibilities: Provide residents with literacy or life skills training, organize/provide fitness or craft classes.
The GRHC also has an ongoing need for donations of food and paper products to stock resident food pantries and for donations in support of Hope Community, a transitional housing program that serves homeless women and children.
