Grand Rapids Housing Commission

  • PART I: INSTRUCTIONS

Landlords/owners can request one Contract Rent Adjustment every 12 months, at the end of the initial lease term for each individual unit. The request is made by filling out this form.

The Request for Contract Rent Adjustment form must be submitted at least 60 days from the first day of the month when the rent increases/decreases. If the request is submitted less than 60 days before the first, the effective date will be changed to the first day of the third month after the request was submitted.

The Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC) will review your request to make sure that the rent is reasonable. If the GRHC determines that the request is reasonable, we will process your request. If the GRHC does not agree to the rent amount, your request will be denied.

If you need help with rent comparables, please go to http://michiganhousinglocator.rentlinx.com/Reasonableness/Search.aspx

The landlord/owner may decide not to renew the tenant's lease and ask the tenant to move at the end of their lease with reasonable notice.

By accepting each monthly housing assistance payment from the GRHC, the landlord/owner certifies that the rent to owner is not more than rent charged by the landlord/owner for comparable unassisted units on the premises. The landlord/owner must provide information requested by the GRHC on rents charged by the owner for other units on the premises. The HAP contract states this requirement.
