Grand Rapids Housing Commission
Affordable Housing for West Michigan
The Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC) provides housing assistance to low-income residents of Grand Rapids, Michigan. We currently serve more than 3,900 West Michigan families.
The GRHC operates seven low-income housing developments, including family housing and apartments for seniors and disabled persons. We also administer federal Section 8 rental subsidy programs, home ownership programs and a transitional housing program.
Over the years the GRHC has expanded our role in the community, partnering with community organizations and individuals to advocate for positive change in local social welfare policy and to offer supportive services families can use to achieve self-sufficiency and a stronger financial future.
Waiting List Information
The GRHC has received many questions about why we are no longer publishing Section 8 waiting list position numbers. Click Section 8 Program Frequently Asked Questions to read about why we are not issuing numbers.
Section 8 applicants will be contacted by U.S. Mail at the address on their application, so it is very important that any change of address be reported—this can be accomplished by completing and submitting our online Application Update Form.
We are not currently accepting new applicants to our Section 8 Program. The waiting lists for our family housing, retirement housing and Project-Based Program are open and accepting new applicants.
